CoxHealth installs new safety restraints for pediatric patients in ambulances

CoxHealth has a new way to keep young patients safe while taking trips in ambulances. During all journeys to emergency rooms, each child receiving care will now be secured with an Ambulance Child Restraint (ACR), which have been installed in all of the system’s ambulances. CoxHealth is the only health system in Southwest Missouri to utilize ACRs.

“The device can restrain a child in a five-point harness system in the event of an accident or rollover en route to the hospital,” says Lana Martin, pediatric trauma coordinator at CoxHealth. “We want to take care of our patients’ needs, and providing an even safer trip to the hospital is something we felt was a priority.”

The devices accommodate children between 4 and 99 pounds, and were funded by Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals at CoxHealth.
